Oracle Patch Wizard

1. What is Patch Wizard used for ?

  • Using a RPL (Recommended Patch List) Patch Wizard determine which patches must be applied to keep your system current;

  • Downloads and merge patches;

  • Analyzes impact of patches.

NOTE: Oracle E-Business Suite Recommended Patch List could be generated from the following link as well:

https://rpl.oracle.com/ViewRPLBody.jsp

Here is the Patch Wizard Main Page which contains the main tasks we can perform with Patch Wizard:

2. How could I access Patch Wizard ?

A) Connect to the Oracle Application Manager -> Site Map -> Maintenance -> Patch Wizard

B) Connect to the Oracle Application Manager -> Applications Dashboard -> Overview -> "Navigate to" ... "Patch Wizard" -> Go

3. Patch Wizard Preferences

To access the Patch Wizard Preferences, from the Patch Wizard main page, click on the "Tasks" icon associated to the "Patch Wizard Preferences". The new page will contains the new Patch Wizard Preferences page and the preferences we can set:

One time the preferences will be chosen, press "OK".

On the next window click on "OK" button, in order to update the database with the value entered for Patch Wizard Preferences:

4. Define Patch Filters

To access the "Define Patch Filters", from the Patch Wizard main page, click on the "Tasks" icon associated to the "Define Patch Filters". The following window will appear:

Here we can choose from the 3 pre-seeded filters or we can create a custom filter.

Recommended Patches: is for the current configuration (Oracle will show the patches we have to apply in order to fix some error for the current patch level).

New Code Levels: Oracle will show the patches we have to apply in order to get the latest patch level.

If "Create New" button is pressed, we can create a custom filter, like in the following window:

5. Downloading the Patch Information Bundle

The Recommended Patch List is downloaded from Metalink as a zip file (InfoBundle11i.zip). This file can be downloaded from this link:

http://updates.oracle.com/download/InfoBundle11i.zip

The file must be downloaded in the stage directory defined in the Patch Wizard Preferences. This file has around 161 Mb. The file must be downloaded from Metalink daily in order to have up-to-date reports.

In order to update the database with the InfoBundle information we have to submit a job for this purpose: Patch Wizard page -> Click on "Task" icon for the "Recommend/Analyze Patches". Here we have to choose "Upload patch information bundle (no analysis)" and to click on "OK" button to start the job.

To get the status of this task:

Patch Wizard page -> Click on "Job Status" icon for the "Recommend/Analyze Patches"

This job could take (the 1st time) between 1 hour and 4 hours.
